FULL SUPPORT: Dr Leo (second row, centre) leads the crowd in declaring ‘1Malaysia’ at a BR1M cash voucher presentation ceremony in Balingian yesterday. Also seen are Crossley (front row, left), Abdul Yakub (front row, right) and Awang Zamhari (second row, right).

BALINGIAN: The fact that the Batang Balingian River still contains an abundance of fish and prawns clearly dismisses the allegation that the aluminium-processing factory operated by Press Metal Mukah has polluted the river and the local environment, said Mukah MP Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Leo Toyad.

This was because the technology employed by aluminium processing plants and other modern industrial operators today are much more advanced and sophisticated, including methods to reduce the level of pollutions caused by industrial effluents and discharge, said Dr Leo who is a medical doctor by training.

Dr Leo made the remark in his speech at a ceremony to present the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) cash vouchers to some 759 recipients held here yesterday.

The ceremony was also attended by SAO Crossley Hillary Sering of Balingian Sub-District Office, Land and Survey Department Mukah superintendent Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood, Mukah District Information officer Muhammed Alwi, a councillor with Mukah Dalat District Council (MDDM) councillor Abdul Yakub Arbi, Penghulu Shahdan Sahari and Penghulu Wee Kee Chuan.

Dr Leo also told his audience that the presentation of BR1M by the caring Barisan Nasional (BN) government to those earning RM3,000 and below per month will not cause the country to become bankrupt as alleged by the opposition.
Instead, Dr Leo said BR1M and many other forms of assistances to the people are made possible with the prudent economic management, stable political climate and caring policy of BN government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak and Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

As such, Dr Leo called on the people to stay united behind the BN government and work hard to ensure that BN will enjoy a bigger victory in the coming general election so that the government’s 1Malaysia development policy will become successful.
